Hip Pain Care in London
Personalised Chiropractic Care for Hip Pain in London
The hips keep us upright and allow us to bear weight, so hip pain can quickly affect walking, working and everyday movement.
I’m Dr Ida Norgaard, a chiropractor at Inc-Health in central London. I assess the hip together with the lower back and pelvis, because these areas can refer pain to the hip, and I recommend an appropriate course of care. Hip pain is also sometimes linked to sciatica.

Understanding Hip Pain
Common Causes of Hip Pain
Hip pain has many possible causes, including inflammation, osteoarthritis and other inflammatory conditions, trauma and overuse injuries. Typically symptoms are felt in the hip, groin, thigh or buttock.
Both the lower back and the pelvis can also refer pain to the hip joint. Chiropractic care may help when it is combined with exercises for the hip, or with exercises that improve strength and condition in the lower back and the surrounding joints.
Clear, personalised care for hip pain
Every hip consultation starts with listening and a thorough assessment of your hip, pelvis and lower back, followed by clear advice on your next steps.

Seek emergency medical help if you experience the sudden onset of any of the following:

How We Help
How Can a Chiropractor Help With Hip Pain?
When you have hip pain, it is important to find out the cause. I take a detailed history and carry out a thorough examination before creating a personalised plan, which may include joint mobilisation or adjustments, soft tissue work, exercises and advice on posture and movement.
When joints become restricted, controlled manual techniques can help restore movement. Working on tight, tender muscles around the hip and lower back is a common part of treatment at the clinic. Conditions such as piriformis syndrome and sacroiliac joint dysfunction can contribute to hip pain, and I assess for these where relevant.
Treatment is non-surgical and drug-free, and your response will be reviewed as we go. If your symptoms need further investigation, I will refer you.

Hip Symptoms
Hip Pain When Walking, Sitting or Lying on Your Side
Hip pain is often felt in the groin, the side of the hip or deep in the buttock, and it may come from the hip joint, the pelvis, nearby muscles or the lower back. Pain that is worse after sitting for a long time, when climbing stairs or when lying on the painful side can all point to different causes. Ida examines the lower back, pelvis and hip together to find the most likely source.
Gentle walking, regular position changes and avoiding sitting on very soft or low seats can ease strain while you are being assessed. If you cannot put weight on the leg after a fall, or if the hip is hot, swollen and painful with a fever, seek medical help promptly. See also our pages on back pain and knee pain.
